Movie Summary
With the goal of creating a safe, friendly environment in which to stimulate discussion about the transition from boy to man, this program offers the various perspectives of sixth-graders in their classroom, people on the street and experts such as doctors, counsellors and teachers. Intercut with information about the physiological process of puberty are animated diagrams along with live-action footage demonstrating the sometimes confusing and overwhelming impact of puberty on the emotions. Starting out with a discussion about images of men and women and the concept of attraction, this program covers the topic of the sex drive, hormones, the role of the pituitary gland, the actual physical changes that occur during puberty and the accompanying melange of feelings. The sixth-grade class ask bold question, which underscore the importance of self-esteem and how to build it up, the value of friendship and the need to talk about feelings. In the exploration of sexual intercourse, the class and per class and peer group discuss many topics including platonic relationships, maturity, abstinence, sexual activity, pregnancy, stud's and aids. After students have viewed this program, it is hoped they will feel comfortable enough to ask their feelings and experiences, and to feel more knowledgeable and confident about the road that lies ahead to mature adulthood.
