Movie Summary

While travelling from Bombay to Santosh Nagar by train, Engineer Ratan (Dev Anand) meets a dancer and singer Rupa (Rehana), a member of a dance troupe owned by Professor Biharilal (Yakub). On the way, some policemen board the same compartment. On seeing the police, Professor Biharilal conceals a stolen necklace in Ratan's coat pocket. As the train stops at the destination, the Professor orders Rupa to track the engineer down at his hotel and retrieve the necklace. Reluctantly she agrees to take up the job. But in the process, they fall in love with each other. The Professor is displeased with the turn of events. However, things change as all of a sudden Ratan departs for Bombay. It is suspected that he not only wants to keep the necklace but also has fallen in love with another dancer and singer Lachchi (Cuckoo). Days pass by and Rupa falls into depression, refusing to sing and dance will Ratan ever return? Who does the necklace belong to and why did the Professor steal it? All this and more is revealed in the climax of this classic romance.
