Movie Summary
The film tells us the true story of Aisin-Gioro Pu Yi, the last emperor of the Chinese Ching Dynasty depicted from 1908 to 1967 when China made its transition from feudalism to Republic. Taken away from his family, Pu Yi becomes the ruler of the Forbidden City at the tender age of three but he turns into a prisoner of his own palace. Depicting his abdication, decline and the consequent dissolute lifestyle, this Bernardo Bertolucci film made a clean sweep at the Oscars by winning nine coveted trophies including 'Best Picture'. It is now widely considered as a modern classic.
